Spell Classes

Overview

Spell classes are categories of magical spells from a variety of schools that all serve a similar function, usually tailored to a specific outcome. Each class has a counter class which represents its conceptual opposite, for example Banishment is the counter class to Summoning and vice versa.

Spells in the Banishment class are concerned with the removal of entities and objects, whether from the caster's immediate location or even from the current plane of existence. They are conceptually opposite to the Summoning class.

The Circle of Spell Classes

The circle of spell classes is a visual representation of the twelve classes and their conceptual alignments in relation to one another. While the proximity of the spell classes to their neighbours is designed to be as closely linked to one another as possible, this is purely conceptual and has no practical impact.

An image representation of the circle of spell classes. Beginning at the top centre position and moving clockwise, the arrangement of spell classes is as follows: Creation, Protection, Perception, Banishment, Translocation, Transmutation, Destruction, Domination, Manipulation, Summoning, Binding, Preservation.

If for any reason the image above is not visible then the table below provides a similar visual representation of the same concept:

Preservation Creation Protection
Binding Perception
Summoning Banishment
Manipulation Translocation
Domination Destruction Transmutation
